and no, i am not a geek.
i have never been a fan of using linux. mostly because of how unfamiliar it is. you can't blame me though, it's, i think, part of human nature.
so...
recently, i had a turn about with regards to that certain opinion.
-----flashback
I have an addendum for our undergraduate research project...surprise surprise! I had to create an automated test to stress test an MMC and the FAT16 file format. I consulted with Sir Atienza with regards to the parameter of the testing...and he told me that to at least project the stress test to about 2 years worth of use.
So, assuming continous usage, the firmware for the Axel Activity Monitor would write every (estimated) 9seconds. 8 seconds data gathering manipulation etc...1 sec (based on led blinking) to write and update and etc for the fat tables and data region.
So...if you have 512 bytes/9sec...translating that to 2 years worth of continous use...that's 3.6GB accumulated writings....hmmm well, with today's memory sizes, that may not be too large. but imagine having an excel file (2 columns of data) that's 3.6GB...you'll get the point.
at first i was pissed off again mostly because i didnt know anything with C that would be able to accomplish such automation. I have never really entertained the slightest possibility of using Linux. Well...not until this addendum...
oh yeah. instead of using 512 bytes...well, that's not really stress testing. so what i need to do is to write about 240MB (max size is 245MB) and project it to 2 years worth of read and write so that will be a total of 1,677,312,000,000,000 bytes by the end of two years... i will be simulating it to about 6,988,800 (times 240MB to get the amount mentioned)
-------------
So i learned that shell scripts would be best to accomplish that automation...
It started out a little tough considering that i didnt know the basic commands you can use
but...it pays to use Google (hahaha)
so now, ive managed to finish the program...
I should be running it soon enough...
and during the process of enjoying creating scripts on shell....i have actually been thinking of using ubuntu.
but....enough said. hahaha...i dont want to complicate my life yet.
here's how the code looks like (simple enough)
#!/bin/bash
counter=1
while [ $counter -le 6988800 ]
do
echo "$counter"
cp test.txt /media/sdc/move.txt
diff -q test.txt /media/sdc/move.txt >> result.txt
rm /media/sdc/move.txt
counter=`expr $counter + 1`
done
the things i had trouble finding....
if you want to append to an already existing file...use
>>
the ones with expr are not ' ' but rather ` ` the one beside the key 1.
anyway. that's it for stress test.
i love doing shell scripts.
parang C programming only better.
simplified yung variable definitions...but siyempre it's not as easy as C.
PS:
i just left our desktop computer running...i programmed it to create the 240MB file necessary for the experiment. Haha! Im afraid it will finish by the time i wake up. I think my laptop is fragmented here and there. especially since i was creating a csv file that would have been continuous...hmm...nevermind thesis hang over. hahaha...the fat entries being updated every now and then when the file is manipulated. it sucks. i figured it would be better to leave it for the computer to accomplish. =)
thank you Lord for shell scripts...and Linux.

trinoma goes kaboom
[migrated from livejournal]
i was supposed to watch horton hears a who in trinoma....
in their thx cinema...
about 20 minutes through the film...
i hear a...
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MM
a prolonged sound...something that sounds similar to water gushing out at high pressure...during the first few seconds i was thinking. wow! finally! THX in action!
and lo and behold...
the cinema was flooding.
hahaha.
-----
one of their fire hose something (that has break glass in case of emergency) was bursting out water....a lot of water and was flooding the front of the cinema....so...like the other people who were rushing out....i followed...
i had the ticket refunded....and being there in trinoma already, i decided to watch 10000BC instead (don't watch it. i was disappointed).
and when i entered....i hear this loud beeping sound. their fire alarms were going off. well, to be fair, from what i heard, since trinoma was 2 days of...something something. im guessing that some where somehow they forgot to turn something off and pressure became unbearable.
-----
well, that was exciting.
it took about 20 minutes (they had to stop the film first until the sound subsided) for it to stop. they

'will be' days.
[migrated from livejournal]
March 14 - will be the day when i will be taking my last academic exam (for my college life).
- will i tear up? hahaha. ASA... I have to rush to makati after the exam. hmm and return back to finalize our presentation for....
March 15 - will be the day of reckoning for our undergraduate research project. it will also mark my last day of doing a powerpoint presentation that's acdemically related
-will i tear up? hahaha. ASA. Of course not! Siyempre may lakwatsa after.
March 24 - will be the deadline for the last lab experiment (design exercise/machine problem - however you want to call it) of my whole academic life.
-will i tear up? hahaha. ASA!! Para saan pa?
The end days are numbered.
Pero kelan ako maluluha dahil sa sobrang tuwa at ang limang taong paghihirap at pagsusunog ng kilay ay magtatapos?!
Simple:
If I graduate with honors.
Hahaha. Sana di mausog at sana madali ang exam bukas.
"sana sana sana. puro nalang sana. "
Well, I did give it my all.
For this semester (the deciding sem to jumpstart 1.77 to 1.75 or less)
So. bakit puro sana nalang?
Because that's the way things are (well, for me though).
Kick ass with what you're doing.
And do not expect...
Just HOPE things fall into their places.
So, sige na nga. maluluha ako kahit di ako grumaduate with honors.
Hahaha. Tears of sorrow?
teka nga. Pag mas pinaguusapan NAUUSOG!
Nevermind nevermind. Erase erase erase. Hahaha.
I'm ready.
When will the next chapter begin?

faith
[migrated from livejournal]
here's how ive come to terms with the reason for "faith's" existence.
God exists in a reality different from ours. Faith is what interlinks the two.
Case in point: Some people say they were miraculously healed by God. And people believe that it is because of their faith that led such event to happen.
And many more.
If you didnt know:
Dogs wagging tail can mean more than what you know. Observation stated in national geographic: When the dog saw its owner, it wagged its tail more to its right (the right side of the dog - when you look at it - your left), and when it saw an unfamiliar dog, it wagged its tail more to the left.

busiest thesis group - today!
[migrated from livejournal]
we have got to be the busiest thesis group in EEE!
no - seriously.
last week, we had an MADC presentation then an awarding. we had to ready a tarpauline and posters for that. But, it turned out well. Everything paid off. We won the most commercializable category after all.
just yesterday, we had a conference where virna this time around presented. (I was the one who presented last MADC and Raissa presented - as she insists when IRC went to Davao again)
But what really sucks is the fact that tomorrow, we have a deadline for the final docu draft due to the advisers. Then we have a deadline with UP Manila. We have to surrender a field unit of our thesis (the Axel Activity Monitor).
So...
Whatelse. I have to fix up some things for graduation. Now, I have a deficiency for my ES11 course - which was never brought up when I asked for a list of deficiency.
Well, that's life - as a student affiliate of IRC. Hahah. Not that I am complaining.

on life's challenges
[migrated from livejournal]
a lot of ground needs to be covered.
Yet, I sleep.
Not because I want to.
But because I need to.
Life's like this. We're pushed and pulled by life's eddies.
I am exhausted. Pushing yourself does have its toll.
More evidently now, with the changing weather.
With a coming exam, and the need to integrate our thesis' firmware.
I stand torn in between.
Especially pissed of by the fact that I was late earlier. I don't even want to specify.
But, priorities priorities. I guess the integration has to wait.
I have all the time next week.
But little time now to study for ece113.
I would not be dreading this much - if I have only been attending classes diligently.
But then again, why have I not been able to attend in the first place?
-Thesis.
Hohoho. If only life's abundant with material belonging. Then with each low, an equivalent high.
A material thing to satisfy every whim.
Materialism.
Haha. The answer to every down. Nope. Not alcohol.

"the end is near!" - revelations, Bible
[migrated from livejournal]
I don't mean to blaspheme against anything or anyone (institution or what)...but...it actually is true..
Mark your calendar(s)! The end is near!
March 15.
Hopefully, everything falls into its proper place by then. With all these conferences and contests <- hahaha. i think i may have exaggerated that. With two upcoming sort of conference - ICT4Health (Man, an organizer missed out on our submission. what a turn off. must everything be followed up on?! <- if you're marketing for an event - YES. -> so there. they better fixed up the program. I hate wasting my efforts for nothing.) plus MADC.
Well, i think the exaggeration may have been called for. The preparation you put into those events the documentations, etc etc. the presentations....and an early deadline for an integrated "thesis"....ahem ahem....is totally whacked! Thankfully, I may have finished up on adolescence which is evident with the lack of pimples despite lack of sleep and irregular sleeping habits (hahah. call this...subliminal phishing)
Anyway...True enough. The end is near. But...for everyone of us in IRC...and to my FRIENDS who are taking up ECE198/COE198/EE198. May it be salvation that welcomes us all - not death. I'm sure all of us are ripe for the taking. (Think of all the possible implications of this sentence. I've actually thought of 3).
And for those who are to graduate next sem next year (whenever you're ready)...Good luck! But before luck gets to you. Wish the luck back at us first. (That's imposed). Let's keep the good karma circulating.
PS: it sucks that the presentation for MADC is at SUCAT. So it's going to be SUCAT on FRIDAY...then FESTIVAL MALL ON SATURDAY. If the cash price was not that big (imagine - 32k for the students - 8k for adviser and 16k for the school!) i don't think it will be worth the effort. Wait actually, no matter what cash prize it is, it is actually worth it. Since, duh, our project makes use of their microcontroller. Plus Plus. (STUDY SHOWS THAT ONLY 10% OF THE PEOPLE WHO READ THIS PARAGRAPH WILL HAVE NOTICED THE INTENTIONAL ERROR I PUT. HAVE YOU NOTICED?)
GAVE UP?
hehehe. i intentionally typed in the wrong spelling for prize in one of the sentence and wrote price instead.
hahaha. I am like that usually...not the part of typing something incorrectly. It actually is one of my pet peeves....I actually am fond of finding out that i may have mistyped certain things just because they sound alike and i was zoning out and never really noticed my fingers typing in the word differently but almost the same just because they sound alike. The case being the example above.
And for the claim study shows...I'm sure you've guessed. I don't think anyone reading this is thatstupid Gullible.
PS: Driving is like breathing. You never really usually remember a moment in time where you actually thought of breathing. It's like it's there. It happens. Similar to a case i'm trying to build. I have noticed that sometimes, when I drive...and I am deep in thought...I zone out and when I snap out of it...I realize I've driven a long while...but don't remember getting there...like did I overtake someone slower? I wasn't in this lane moments before... Kind of surreal when you are actually in that point in time where you realize you don't remember getting there. (hahaha. sounds like alien abduction?)
PSS: There's this sort of alley (2 laner road where cars are usually parked on one side) intersecting both mindanao and visayas avenue...you can try getting there by turning right after you drive by Avenetto (Visayas going to QMC)...so yes back to the alley. I love driving through those sort of roads where the margin of error when two cars are driving in the opposite direction in a single lane road (single for both sides) is very small. A miscalculation could lose you a side view mirror. Adrenaline rush! I love the challenge it imposes when you drive fast. I have seen the Hong Kong roads. And these kinds of driving instances/situations do exist....and there is of course a speed limit (min)...I remember where a truck is in the other lane and we were going the other way...RUSH!!
Quote: "Di ako kaskasero. 'Mahina' lang yung iba."
Quote 2: "It takes guts to drive faster"
hahaha. The quotes are for licensed drivers. student drivers - do not even!

discoveries
[migrated from livejournal]
1) Did you know that low frequency sounds can cause a Polar Bear to become aggressive?
2) Did you know that Svalbard does exist (if you're a Pullman fan then you should know what I am talking about)?
For number 1, according to what I saw at National Geographic, this is not the sole cause. Pollutants in the atmosphere are carried to the arctic (air currents?) and due to the harsh weather, the cold etc etc, those pollutants condense and mix in with arctic waters.
Those are in turn, ingested by planktons which are eaten by fish which are eaten by seals and then finally reach the apex of the food chain - the polar bears. They consume the blubber of seals which contains about a billion times the pollutant (according to NG). This intoxication to the polar bears are considered to be the cause of recorded aggression from Polar Bears. Although, p. bears are not naturally aggressive, factors like low frequency sounds (passing aircrafts, motor noise from ships, oil plantations etc etc) accumulate to cause their aggression.
trivia: Most fatalities caused by the bears are from the male sex. Male bears are very curious compared to female bears which are cautious and calculating.
3) Did you know that the cashier at Ate Fe's (I'm not sure if she's the owner or what) has a daughter taking up nursing.
-Haha. I am not a stalker. I just saw them this morning waiting for a tricycle near ministop.
4) I didn't know that Neanderthals were considered to be a different species from moder humans. There was a discussion in NG about how unlikely it was to have Neanderthal decendants today. I got the impression somewhere that no offspring would have been created if a Neanderthal and Modern Human shagged. (haha)
5) Did you know that my favorite song as of the moment is (Timbaland feat. Fall Out Boy)'s One and Only? If you don't know the lyrics:

"One & Only"
(feat. Fall Out Boy)
[Verse 1 - Timbaland]
I get over heels for someone (I)
That I really can't deal with (deal with)
I want to block her out my mind
But I really can't do it
I tell myself this the last time
I'ma let her do this to me
Whenever we do spend time
I realize that I can't get enough of you
[Bridge - Patrick Stump (Timbaland)]
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
[Chorus (Patrick Stump):]
To be despised
To be loved
To be dreamt of
To be sought
I'm the inside of "I don't care"
Right in the middle
I'm right in the middle
To be despised
To be loved
To be dreamt of
To be sought
I'm the inside of "I don't care"
Be my unholy
My one and my lonely
[Verse 2 - Patrick Stump]
I wear scarves and hoods
'Cause it's the only poker face that I've got left
And everything I love about you is a mess
Smash the mirror and break the palm reader's hand
I want to be better than I am
[Bridge - Patrick Stump (Timbaland)]
(Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
[Chorus (Patrick Stump)]
[Verse 3 - Timbaland]
Girl, just look what you've done
How could you do this to me?
I gotta put my foot down
I can't let you do this to me
I can't forget those good ole times
And all the things you've been doing to me
I wanna hit that one more time
I mean love, what your doing to me
I'ma say it loud, right here
Let's fuck in this crowd
Why we arguing
I thought me and you were supposed to be
Friends
Let's chill for minute
Better yet we could heal for a minute (for a minute)
Baby, put down the knife
Sometime I wanna save ya life
Why don't you
6) And finally, did you know that PRISON BREAK just keeps getting better and better?! If you didn't catch up! Watch Ep. 12. Man on man. It was so exciting I didn't even notice the hour pass by. I was close the edge all through out the episode. Although, I was already expecting Molly's appearance but she hasn't yet which got me talking that perhaps they shot another storyline. It's totally different from the spoilers I have been reading. She should have already come out by now...she was supposed to kill Gretchen after all. Man oh Man. I am hating Linc each and every episode. What a time to pull out a grudge for someone?! Nearing the critical moment he goes all dramatic about his Father's death! I thought your son was important for you! Don't fuck Michael's plans over your vendetta! Shit! Hahaha. Sorry. I got carried away. Hahaha.
7) Ooops. PS: Will this cycle continue for the next weeks? Again, I have no sleep! I didn't get any sleep exactly last week because I was finishing up the integration of my FAT16 (csv) firmware with the Axel Activity Monitor firmware + Power Optimization feature. Hmm. But for this week, thankfully I have already finished that integration, I was having fun doing the LCD firmware. Haha. I had a vision you see...so I wasn't satisfied with having the screen use the horizontal addressing or whatever for the display (in layman's term: horizontal -> for texts, vertical -> for images)....but since my vision required the integration of both....I pursued and ACCOMPLISHED!

(feat. Fall Out Boy)
[Verse 1 - Timbaland]
I get over heels for someone (I)
That I really can't deal with (deal with)
I want to block her out my mind
But I really can't do it
I tell myself this the last time
I'ma let her do this to me
Whenever we do spend time
I realize that I can't get enough of you
[Bridge - Patrick Stump (Timbaland)]
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
[Chorus (Patrick Stump):]
To be despised
To be loved
To be dreamt of
To be sought
I'm the inside of "I don't care"
Right in the middle
I'm right in the middle
To be despised
To be loved
To be dreamt of
To be sought
I'm the inside of "I don't care"
Be my unholy
My one and my lonely
[Verse 2 - Patrick Stump]
I wear scarves and hoods
'Cause it's the only poker face that I've got left
And everything I love about you is a mess
Smash the mirror and break the palm reader's hand
I want to be better than I am
[Bridge - Patrick Stump (Timbaland)]
(Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your fucking face (Let me say to you)
Wipe that smile off your face (Let me say to you)
[Chorus (Patrick Stump)]
[Verse 3 - Timbaland]
Girl, just look what you've done
How could you do this to me?
I gotta put my foot down
I can't let you do this to me
I can't forget those good ole times
And all the things you've been doing to me
I wanna hit that one more time
I mean love, what your doing to me
I'ma say it loud, right here
Let's fuck in this crowd
Why we arguing
I thought me and you were supposed to be
Friends
Let's chill for minute
Better yet we could heal for a minute (for a minute)
Baby, put down the knife
Sometime I wanna save ya life
Why don't you
6) And finally, did you know that PRISON BREAK just keeps getting better and better?! If you didn't catch up! Watch Ep. 12. Man on man. It was so exciting I didn't even notice the hour pass by. I was close the edge all through out the episode. Although, I was already expecting Molly's appearance but she hasn't yet which got me talking that perhaps they shot another storyline. It's totally different from the spoilers I have been reading. She should have already come out by now...she was supposed to kill Gretchen after all. Man oh Man. I am hating Linc each and every episode. What a time to pull out a grudge for someone?! Nearing the critical moment he goes all dramatic about his Father's death! I thought your son was important for you! Don't fuck Michael's plans over your vendetta! Shit! Hahaha. Sorry. I got carried away. Hahaha.

sleeping and bandwidth
[migrated from livejournal]
you know, i really love it when i study late night. it's quiet, and i can hear my thoughts better.
which got me thinking - when i study late night, and most other people sleep....then it's like I'm hogging all the available bandwidth...
but then, if that was the case, then the premise was that everyone shares a single collective thought and that we're all connected/networked to each other somehow.
hmm...
